The Office of the Sheriff
is responsible for enforcing all federal, state, county, and municipal
ordinances within the county. Included in these duties are investigations of
thefts, vandalisms, assaults, illegal drug activity, reported child and or
domestic abuse, and all other criminal allegations. The Sheriff is also
required to carry out duties relating to the involuntary hospitalization of
persons with mental illness and duties relating to condemnation of private
property. In addition, the Sheriff is charged with maintaining a 11 bed jail.
The Chickasaw County Sheriff's Department routinely patrols 504 square miles of
county roads. They also patrol the towns of Fredericksburg, Ionia, Alta Vista,
Lawler, and all the County parks.
