COUNTY BOARD MINUTES

 AUGUST 15 & 16, 2011

 

The Board convened on Monday, August 15, 2011 with all members present:  Pickar, Byrne, Holthaus, Andersen, and Zoll.  The meeting was called to order by Chairman Pickar. Mail was opened and distributed.  Also present member from the media.

 

Motion by Holthaus, Seconded by Andersen to approve agenda for August 15 & 16, 2011. Roll Call: All Ayes. Motion Carried.

 

Motion by Andersen, Seconded by Byrne to approve board minutes of August 8 & 9, 2011.   Roll Call:  All Ayes.  Motion Carried.

 

The Assistant County Engineer John Murray met with the Board to discuss road departmental activities.  Topics included:  maintenance and service of vehicles; maintenance of gravel roads; ditch cleaning, entrances, etc; one call over the weekend for a stop sign that was knocked down 210th at 225th; mowing paved road (finished east and west sides); spraying weed and willows/brush; spot rock and blading, mowing continues on granular surface roads;

 

Custodian Dave Gorman and Dave Randall of Randall Construction met with the Board for an update on the Courthouse Tuckpointing Phase III that begins in the Spring of 2012.

 

Motion by Andersen, Seconded by Holthaus to approve the Certification of Abstract of Taxes and Tax books for collection of taxes for FY 2011-2012.  Roll Call:  All Ayes. Motion Carried.

 

County Attorney Pat Wegman met with the Board to discuss civil service commission as per Iowa Code Section 341A.2.  Also present: Sheriff Marty Larsen and Chief Deputy Todd Miller. Discussion followed. No action taken until next board meeting.

 

Motion by Byrne, Seconded by Andersen to adjourn the meeting at 11:55 AM.   Roll Call: All Ayes. Motion Carried.

 

The Board convened on Tuesday, August 16, 2011 with the following members present:  Pickar, Zoll, Holthaus, Andersen and Byrne.    The meeting was called to order by Chairman Pickar. Mail was opened and distributed.

 

Public Health and Home Care Services Administrator Kathy Babcock met with the Board to introduce the new Assistant Director Diane Murphy.

 

Data Processing Manager Doug Welton met with the Board to discuss the purchase of computer equipment for the Sheriff’s, Recorder and Assessor’s Department. Also present: Chief Deputy Todd Miller and Chief Dispatcher Cathy Knutson.

 

Advanced Computer Engineering Solution (ACES) representative Phil Kenealy gave a presentation to the Board regarding Disaster Recovery program. Discussion followed.

 

 

ACES will submit a quote for the Board to review. No action taken pending Board discussion and decision.

 

Motion by Holthaus. Seconded by Andersen to approve the purchase five computers (2-Recorder’s Office; 2-Sheriff’s Office; 1-Assessor’s Office)  in the amount of $3,450.00; four monitors (3-Auditor’s Office; 1-Engineer’s Office) in the amount of  $639.96 and software -firewall protection (Sheriff’s Office and Public Health and Home Care Services) in the amount of $3,440.00 for various departments.  Roll Call:  All Ayes. Motion Carried.

 

Renea Huinker with Bank Iowa met with the Board to discuss ACH updates for the Auditor and Treasurer offices.  Also present: Sue Breitbach.

 

The Board allowed claims.

 

The Board received and filed IDNR Manure Management Annual Update for Don Kurtenbach-Section 23 (ID#64997) in Section 23 of Utica Township located at 1685 Victoria Way, Lawler, IA 52154.

 

The Board received and filed IDNR Manure Management Annual Update for Chickasaw Farms, LLC (ID#62444) in Section 22 of Dayton Township located at 2241 Jasper Avenue, New Hampton, IA 50659.

 

The Board received and filed IDNR Manure Management Annual Update for Gary Gorman (ID #57703) in Section 28 of Jacksonville Township located at 2435 180th Street, New Hampton, IA 50659.

 

Received and filed Bradford Township Statement of Receipts and Disbursements for FY 2010-2011.

 

Motion by Andersen, Seconded by Byrne to adjourn the meeting at 12:30 PM.  Roll Call: All Ayes. Motion Carried.
