COUNTY BOARD MINUTES
MAY 9, 2016
The Board convened on Monday, May 9, 2016 at 9:30 AM with all members
present: Carolan, Holthaus, Geerts, Andersen,
and Zoll. The meeting was called to order
by Chairman Andersen. Mail was opened
Motion by Geerts, Seconded by Zoll to approve the agenda for May 9, 2016. Roll Call: All Ayes. Motion Carried.
Motion by Carolan, Seconded by Geerts to approve the board minutes of
May 2 & 3, 2016. Roll Call: All Ayes. Motion Carried.
Chairman Andersen received and opened three bids: Randy Anderson in the
amount of $1,622.00; Curt Carey in
the amount of $1,877.00; and Ralph Hennessey in the amount of $ 1251.00.
Motion by Carolan, Seconded by Zoll to accept the bid from Curt Carey
in the amount of 1,877.00for the 2003 Ford F350 pickup (Conservation
Department). Roll Call: All Ayes. Motion Carried.
The Board discussed the signs at the DHS building.
The County Engineer Dusten Rolando met with the Board to discuss road
departmental activities. Topics
included: maintenance and service of
vehicles; maintenance of gravel roads; work on 260th Street;
entrance repair on 290th Street; work orders, continue in various
areas; remove last of snow equipment; closed Alta Vista road, box culvert; sign
repair, replacement; spot rocking in various areas; Division IV contract rock
starts today; blading gravels all week; 1780 culvert, Asherton Ave, Deaden end
replaced to 210th Street; continue bridge projects, repair, day
labor; sizing culvert on Ivanhoe Court; started A.V. Box culvert; bridge
removal; design work, bridges, Cheyenne Avenue, Ionia Shop roof, Look at
replacement; budget review FY 16; Bobcat skid loader; continue working on
tandem truck specs; right of way acquisition worksheet; etc.

Assistant County Attorney Mark Huegel and Deputy Assessor Ray Armel met
with the Board to discuss several matters: the plat of the Village of Chickasaw,
John Casey’s Addition in the City of Lawler, a potential property acquisition
and County Farm Lease Agreement-Radio Tower Project. Also present was Assessor Doug Welton and
County Engineer Dusten Rolando.
Village of Chickasaw:
Motion by Zoll, Seconded by Geerts to transfer the vacated streets and
alleys to the appropriate owners in the plat of the Village of Chickasaw. Roll Call:
All Ayes. Motion Carried.
Motion by Zoll, Seconded by Geerts to begin the process of vacating
First Street south of 220th Street for the Village of
Chickasaw. Roll Call: All Ayes.
Regarding the John Casey’s Addition to the City of Lawler: The County
Attorney’s Office will contact the property owner and update the Board at a
Deputy Assessor Ray Armel gave the Board an update on the purchase of
the potential property.
Assistant County Attorney Mark Huegel gave the Board a County Farm
Lease Agreement for the radio tower project to review. Discussion followed. The County Attorney’s Office will revise the
last paragraph of the agreement.
Knight of the Pioneer Cemetery Commission met with the Board to sign a
Proclamation for the month of May as Cemetery Appreciation month in Iowa. Also present were Vice Chairman Wally
Boehmer, Treasurer Julie Eckenrod, Secretary Jeanette Kottke, Volunteers
Philomena Boehmer, Diane Murphy, Adis Lee, and Bonnie Keller.
Motion by Geerts, Seconded by Holthaus to authorize Chairman Signature
on the Proclamation for the month of May 2016 as Cemetery Appreciation Month in
Iowa. Roll Call: All Ayes.
Public Health & Home Care Services Administrator Kathy Babcock and
Assistant Administrator Diane Murphy met with the Board to discuss office space
at the Community Services Building. Also
present was Custodian Dave Gorman.
Discussion followed. The Board
reviewed the office space at the Community Services Building.
Motion by Zoll, Seconded by Carolan to adjourn the meeting at 12:03 PM.
