COUNTY BOARD MINUTES

 JUNE 28 & 29, 2010.

 

The Board convened on Monday, June 28, 2010 with all members present:   Boge, Holthaus, Mattke, Andersen and Pickar. The meeting was called to order by Chairman Boge. Mail was opened and distributed. 

 

Motion by Andersen, Seconded by Mattke to approve agenda for June 28 & 29, 2010.  All Ayes.   Motion Carried.

 

Motion by Holthaus, Seconded by Pickar to approve board minutes of June 21 & 22, 2010. All Ayes.  Motion Carried.

 

Jill Brincks, Zoning Administrator met with the Board for a departmental update and set public hearing dates for the zoning ordinance.  Discussion followed.

 

Motion by Andersen, Seconded by Holthaus to set the following public hearing dates for the zoning ordinance to be held at the Community Services Building: July 26, 2010 at 7:00 PM; August 10, 2010 at 1:00 PM and August 24, 2010 at 10:00 AM.  Roll Call:  All Ayes. Motion Carried.

 

County Engineer, Dusten Rolando met with the Board to discuss departmental activities. Topics included:  maintenance and services of vehicles; entrance permits; work orders at various areas, sign repair and inventory, spot rocking, PCC patching at V48 and V 14, bridge repair list, structural culvert list update; survey work, box culverts; GPS demonstration on Thursday; Groves bridge design, courthouse sidewalk specs, etc.

 

Motion by Mattke, Seconded by Pickar to approve Fireworks Permit for Robert Flick, Staci Vrzak, Grant  Pacovsky, and Don Blazek.  Roll Call:  All Ayes.  Motion Carried.

 

Motion by Andersen, Seconded by Pickar to adjourn the meeting at 11:45 AM.   Roll Call: All Ayes. Motion Carried.

 

The Board convened on Tuesday, June 29, 2010 with all members present:   Boge, Holthaus, Mattke, Andersen and Pickar. The meeting was called to order by Chairman Boge. Mail was opened and distributed. 

 

Chickasaw County Tourism Committee and stakeholders met with the Board to discuss the Chickasaw County Tourism Assessment Report compiled by Karen Theis, Independent Contractor and Tourism Director/Coordinator Proposal.  Present were: Jeaneen Lindeland, Jim and Sue Schueth, and Richard Armbrecht representing Chickasaw County Tourism; Fran Schmitt, Director of Gateway Iowa Welcome Center;

Karen Wilson, representing Bradford Museum; Juanita Andersen representing the Carnegie Cultural Center; and Karen Theis, Independent Contractor.

 

Fran Schmitt gave a progress report on the Tourism Committee to promote tourism in Chickasaw County and the surrounding area. Sue Schueth gave a financial update.  Discussion followed.  It was the consensus of the group that it would be beneficial to have a tourism director/coordinator for Chickasaw County. 

 

Motion by Pickar, Seconded by Holthaus to adjourn the meeting at 11:30 AM.   Roll Call: All Ayes. Motion Carried.

   

The Board and Auditor attended luncheon and toured Jendro Sanitation Facility in Charles City.  Jendro Sanitation provides waste services to the residents and businesses of Chickasaw County including New Hampton, Nashua, Lawler, Ionia, Alta Vista, and North Washington, among other cities and counties.  They also provide recycling services and sites for Chickasaw County.  They employ approximately 22 employees.
